You sound like you have some experience dealing with copyright laws. I think it is a sound idea to have your work protected. The issues surrounding the copyright laws, however, are making it pretty darn tough for a lot of artistic industries and more. Did you design the image on this page? Just curious. I love to see other people's art work. I can draw a little bit but only when the left side of my brain wakes up and feels like it.

Copyright is the form of protection provided by the laws of the United States to the authors of “original work of authorship”, including, literacy, dramatic, artistic and other intellectual works. The copyright act gave the author the right to reproduce the work and distribute copies. The author also have the right to perform the work publicity. When we talk about Fair Use we can tell that is a copyright principle based on the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposes of commentary and criticism.

You should always give credit to the person who created the work as a sound recording, photograph, motion picture or document. It’s not matter the amount of material that you use, if it is a copyrighted material you should not used. If a webpage doesn’t have the word or the symbol©, doesn’t mean isn’t copyrighted. Almost everything on the Web is copyrighted.
Since I start in my career as a graphic designer I been dealing with copyright. Every logo, graphic design or web design contract that I make, includes the copyright law. That way those clients that doesn’t know about the copyright law would be aware of it.
