My initial AR Project was based off of Professional Development within a corporate setting through distance learning and other web 2.0 technologies. This is my goal as a career to find a government agency or corporation to work for. However, I have had to redirect my AR topic temporarily to How Providers implement online modules to impact learning skills on mentally challenged or at-risk students?

So below is a list of a combination of sources that will help me in both areas.

I started following this blog while working on another project dealing with Brain Based Learning and Multiple Intelligence. I think this site is a great resource in dealing with the developmentally challenged and at-risk youth. There has been in depth studies on using these types of learning theories within corporations for training management, as well as, employees. Joe Deegan is an Instructional Designer/eLearning Developer whose focus is impacting business results through innovative training solutions.

I joined this association September 2010. This organization is filled with various educational and professional resources their “mission is to serve the distance learning community by providing advocacy, information, networking and opportunity.” Following this site helps me stay connected with what is going on in the area of learning and teaching using various learning trends, such as distance learning , e-learning, mobile learning, computer-based training (CBT), web-based training (WBT), instructor-led training (ILT), online training, online learning, blended learning, classroom training, and webinars.

I have just registered for the Florida chapter Distance Learning Association (FDLA) Fall Conference October 15 – 16, 2010 in Orlando Florida. (see details below) I am so excited about this conference and the possible networking opportunities that may be available. Also just to be able to learn what new technologies are being considered for the future and how to utilize them in training is just amazing to me.

Florida Distance Learning Association (FDLA) Fall Conference October 15 - 16, 2010 Orlando, Florida.
“Creating Technology-rich Instructions” is the theme for the 2010 state-wide Fall Conference of the Florida Distance Learning Association that will be held in Orlando. The October 15 and 16 meeting will be held at the Nova Southeastern Student Educational Center located at the Millennium Mall in Orlando, Florida. Featured speakers will include K-12 educators, university professors and expert technology providers. For more information or to register for the conference visit www.fdla.com.

According to the website www.usdla.org “The United States Distance Learning Association was the first nonprofit Distance Learning association in the United States to support Distance Learning research, development and praxis across the complete arena of education, training and communications.”

USDLA addresses the needs and concerns of K-12, higher education continuing education, corporate training, military and government training, home schooling and telemedicine.They also seem to address issues that focus on national and international technology based Distance Learning. Join USDLA

For my business interest this blog is really insightful. The McKinsey & Company website and the McKinsey Quarterly provides information that helps you think about management in all sectors. With ideas on how to run an organization productively and improve the creativity of those areas. I get to read the most current headlines from corporations and academic institutions. The McKinsey Quarterly is also offered in a print journal as well. You do have to sign up and become a member but I think it is worth it to read the information provided.

The Online Teacher Resource

Although this site has memberships that you have to pay for there are just as many online resource that it offers as well that are free. Here is a list of what they offer: “42,000+ lesson plans, 9,000 free printable worksheets, rubrics, teaching tips, worksheet makers, web quests, math worksheets, and thousands of other great teacher resources.” It is great to see a site that focuses highly on using technology to educate all students from K-12 to High School.
According to the site it offers a variety of services that include:

1) professional development consultations designed to support K-12

2) original content and software products designed to provide teachers
    with tools for creating instructional materials;
3) original publications created by experienced educators for other educators;
    and
4) reasonably priced membership programs.

I look forward to creating lesson plans and other fun projects with my student and for the research of my AR Project.

The George Lucas Educational Foundation

This is another site that I think will guide me through my Action Research Project in implementing solutions to my problem statement. There is such an array of resources and information for the students, professors, the children and their parents. Since I am dealing with an 18 year youth I particularly liked the areas that focus on prepping students from high school to college to career.
